2001 Tempranillo Results
Tempranillo is a great wine with food and soooo affordable! When I state that it requires food, I must add that it requires food! Most importantly, foods prepared with saffron enhance the tempranillo experience. Without food, tempranillo can wear the palate thin!

The year 2001 has been touted as being a stellar year of the century. Hence, I assembled the troops and a few months ago we tasted the current releases. I have previously distributed but the list has grown and the wines are still readily available… plus… many are not yet 2001 so this will serve as a benchmark. Having said that again, many wines that are not 2001, but where a previous vintage fares well in the tasting, it is a safe bet to believe that 2001 will deliver superior palate tantalization.

2001 Syrah Results
Syrah is a wonderful grape and is known for wine in Australia, France (Rhone), California and other countries. The attached results represent a tasting of Australia, California and France. Although I am an advocate of California wines, the Australian Shiraz was quite impressive and stole the show in my opinion! The French appear to be caught up in a particular style (I guess) and the wine they are producing from the syrah grape does not fare well in comparison to that of the Australians and California. Of course some of the wines tasted will improve with time, the attached results represent how they taste today with no speculation on how they might improve or deteriorate with time! Damn! That last sentence has me sounding like a lawyer! I must not be drinking enough!

The Wine Snob 5th Annual Blind Zinfandel Tasting Vintage 2000 & 2001
Quite a few of the 2001 Zinfandels are beginning to hit the shelves, however vintner releases are going to be staggered throughout the year so some of the traditional wines we are accustomed to including are not yet available. As always, I was joined by a select group of individuals that are dedicated to the Wine Snob Cause (whatever that is!) Anyway… please join me as I extend my sincerest appreciation to the wine snob tasters that sacrificed a Friday evening after a hard day of work. The humanitarian example these tasters set for the rest of the world is beyond compare.
These men and women belly up the official wine snob table, subject themselves to the pain and suffering of a dozen different wines, gourmet delights, and then, when you would imagine they can give no more… these folks continue to deliver delightful and intellectual banter through midnight and beyond, all the while rifling through my cellar and consuming some of my prized wines.
The latter will not be forgotten!
